Than Kyaw Thay

Born in 1978 in Sittwe, in Myanmar's Rakhine State, Than Kyaw Htay studied at the Yangon School of Fine Arts. His work is deeply connected to his homeland, its landscapes, and the living conditions of its rural populations.

Behind the luminous beauty of his paintings lie more serious realities: drought, monsoon-induced flooding, the gradual disappearance of heritage, and the displacement of people. Through a style that is both sensitive and committed, Than Kyaw Htay gives a presence to those whom history too often leaves in the shadows.
