Recognized by its beautifully curved “crescent moon” ears, the Marwari is the most famous horse breed in Rajasthan, in the Jodhpur region.
The birthplace of the Marwari is the Mârwar region. The Rathores, rulers of Mârwar and members of the Rajput cavalry, are the traditional breeders of the Marwari. Its history is full of wonders and mysteries. Some say that a ship containing 7 Arabian horses was wrecked off the west coast of India. The Mârvar district captured these horses and gave them its name. Others tell of a black Arab stallion who roamed the desert and fell in love with a mare with a blond mane. One crescent-moon night, they gave birth to foals with ears of the same shape.
Retour De Voyage came across this horse during a trip to Rajasthan in India. It's impossible not to notice his majestic stance and natural elegance, which only Marwaris have the secret to. Harnessed for the grand days of sumptuous feasts, his carpet is adorned with embroidery and precious stones.
